PROGRAM OUTCOMES

MASTER OF SCIENCE (MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS ENGINEERING ) BY MIXED MODE

At the end of the programme, graduates should be able to:

PO1 : demonstrate continuing and advanced knowledge in the area of manufacturing systems engineering and have the capabilities to further develop or use these in new situations or multidisciplinary

contexts;

PO2 : analyse and evaluate problems in the manufacturing systems engineering discipline critically, particularly in situations with limited information and to provide solutions through the application of appropriate tools and techniques;

PO3 : appraise available information and research evidence and apply it in the

manufacturing systems engineering context;

PO4 : plan and perform research related to manufacturing systems engineering professionally, ethically and responsibly;

PO5 : report technical findings in both written and oral forms; and

PO6 : recognise the needs for continuing professional development in the area of manufacturing systems engineering

This programme aims to prepare students for an active and effective professional role in the manufacturing industry . The more specific objectives of the course are to develop the appropriate professional competence for the following functions:

Research and development related to all aspects of manufacturing systems, production planning and scheduling, lean manufacturing and quality management system.

Trouble shooting tasks related to theoretical and practical perspectives in manufacturing systems.

Application of manufacturing practices including 5S, Kanban, Kaizen, Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED), Poka-Yoke and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).

Development of the interdisciplinary skills required for successful product development in today’s competitive marketplace

Entry Requirements

A good Bachelor degree in related engineering areas or equivalent in the relevant field from a recognized university.

English Requirements

(i)        Foreign students are required to have proficiency in written and spoken English in one of the following forms:

§  A minimum TOEFL score of 550; or

§  A minimum IELTS score of Band 6; or equivalent

(ii)       Candidates who do not possess English language proficiency are required to sit for the English Placement Test before commencing their studies at UniMAP.

(iii)      Applicants who are holding a degree with English as the medium of instruction may be exempted from this requirement.

Programme Structure

The course structure is 41 units where by 21 units is Coursework and another 20 units is Dissertation.

1st semester will see the students learning in the edge of knowledge in manufacturing systems engineering. Four subjects including research methodology will be offered in this semester. They are equipped with the strong fundamental knowledge in the area with guidance from experienced lecturer.

 At the same time, students are encouraged to find out their interested research and start writing their research proposal. (Students may start their research on this semester).

2nd semester three subjects including elective subjects will be offered to strengthen the students in application of knowledge of manufacturing systems engineering.

Students will totally concentrate on their research on 2nd semester.
